Queensland is a beautiful, intriguing, and engaging destination. Over 2 million international travellers graced Queensland in 2014, and over 18 million domestic visitors dropped into the Sunshine State in the same period.
Surfers Paradise, Broadbeach, Port Douglas, Twin Waters, and Daydream Island are just some of Queensland’s hot spots. These regions cater for visitors with a variety of fantastic resorts, hotels, and accommodation options to suit differing holiday styles, family sizes, and budgets.
Due to the family friendly nature of these regions, the variety of backdrops and accommodation, and some pretty impressive attractions, Queensland getaways can be somewhat inundated over school holiday periods.
This creates a buzzing family friendly atmosphere and means there’ll be plenty of friends for the kids! However, Discover Queensland understands some families appreciate a less hectic holiday and therefore we recommend to visit outside of school breaks for a more relaxing experience.
To find out more information on this topic we took to our Discover Queensland Facebook page to ask our loyal customers their opinions and advice on taking children out of school for family holidays and the results were intriguing…
Sarah Harris of Spreyton, Tasmania says, “We do it every year, as we simply couldn't afford to go in school holidays! (Never mind the theme park queues!) We tell our school in advance and ask the teacher if they have work for the kids to do while they're away, if there's anything specific the class will be working on. Never had a problem, I think you'll find most teachers agree the life experience kids get is just as valuable :)”
Yvette Seamons in Melbourne, Victoria tell us, “Clear it with the school and get their teachers to give them an assignment or project to do while they are away. Even a journal is a great idea.”
Lastly for a male’s perspective, Stuart Berryman from Melbourne, Victoria weighed in with, “We do it every year in November - 8 year old twins plus a 5 year old - 2 weeks out of school at that age no problems. And everything including nice accommodation is far cheaper. We stay in Coolangatta and love it, cheaper quieter. No problems on the kids return to school, if anything they are re-energised!”
The feedback was nearly 100% in favour of taking children on holidays during school terms!
