Toowoomba Things To Do

If you are near the city during September, you are in for a treat. The festival of flowers is one of the largest flower festivals in Australia and has won numerous awards as a national event!

Visit Queens Park, a 26.3 hectare a botanical gardens in the centre of town designed by the government botanist behind Brisbane’s gardens and filled with plants and flowers from around the world.

Step back in time with the 2.5 kilometre Russell Street Historical Walk to discover life in the 1860’s. Or drop by the Toowoomba Cobb & Co Museum to a time of horse-drawn carriages and steam trains!

Dalby Things To Do

Find a treasure at the Dalby Antiques Stores.

See into the past with a visit to the Dalby Pioneer Park Museum displaying Queensland’s largest collection of working tractors including a 1930’s reaper and binder and a working thresher from the 1800’s!

Visit the state’s oldest operating woolshed at Jondaryan Woolshed where you can learn the rich history with a guided tour.
 

St George Things To Do

Indulge your tastebuds at Riversands Winery with a free tasting and enjoy a cheese platter or scones in the alfresco café.

See ‘The Unique Egg’ - the world’s only hand carved and illuminated emu egg, crafted by ‘Steve the Greek’ an amusing local character.

Drop by the Beardmore Dam for a look at 81 800 megalitres of water with a stunning surrounding landscape with parklands. This is also a perfect fishing spot.
 

Cunnamulla Things To Do

Take a snap with the Cunnamulla Fella, a tribute to the iconic outback song popularised by the Australian icon slim dusty.

Meet the local megafauna with a drive to Eulo where you can see the fossilised remains of a giant marsupial, in fact, the largest species of marsupial in the world! This piece of history was long though to be the mythical Australian Bunyip!

See skippy in the outback, with a population of 950 roo’s per person, Cunnamulla has the title of Outback Queensland’s largest roo population! Which also means you should be weary driving at dawn, dusk and night as they often wander close to the roads. When you’re done be sure to visit the Artesian Springs for an outdoor bath in rich mineral mud!

Thargomindah Things To Do

This small town is home to Australia’s first hydro-electric power plant! Visit the Artesian Bore 2km out of town along Noccundra Road drilled in 1891 down to 795 metres with a unique pressure that supplied the town’s electricity until 1951 and still provides the town’s water supply.

Enjoy the Pelican Point Nature Trail for a lovely walk or bike along the Bulloo River.
 
A trip out to this region would not be complete without venturing to Cameron’s Corner where the states of Queensland, New South Wales and South Australia meet and are divided by the Grey Ranges, Simpson Strzelecki Deserts and the Bulloo overflow.

Quilpie Things To Do

Adventure through magnificent boulder formations with caves and crevices untouched by civilisation at Baldy Top Lookout. While providing a unique experience and incredible views, you’ll only need 10 minutes to scramble to the top!

Lake Houdraman is a beautiful spot to have a picnic, enjoy a swim, stop for the night in your motorhome or simply take in the sights!

Stop by the Quilpie Visitor Information Centre, Museum and Gallery with the Shire Museum, Military History Museum, Rail Museum and Regional Gallery all attached.

A visit would not be complete without a trip to St. Finbarr’s Church to see ‘The Jewel of the Outback’, a stunning opal boulder. Once you’re inspired you can try your hand at opal fossicking free 2km west of town.

Charleville Things To Do

Watch the starry sky with a visit to Charleville’s own observatory, the Cosmos Centre! Take a self-guided tour to the new Astro Dome experience or book a tour with a passionate guide.

Take flight and see the sights from above with a scenic flight over Charleville with a 20 minute journey – don’t forget your camera!

Charleville is Australia’s Bilby capital! Meet one in person and learn about their conservation. If you are visiting in September you may be lucky enough to catch National Bilby Day Festival.

Pay the Historic House Museum a visit, built in 1877 as the town’s first bank, it has since become a boarding house, historical society and is now a museum.

Mitchell Things To Do

Relax with a therapeutic soak at The Great Artesian Spa. A dip in the mineralised waters is said to unwind the body and reset the soul with people having travelled great distances over the ages to visit.

Discover the wild landscapes of Mount Moffat at the northern section of Carnarvon National Park.

Get in touch with your artistic side at Mitchell on Maranoa Art Gallery, a transformed old Picture Theatre that is now a cultural hub with gallery, library, movie projection room and even boasts a sculpture garden.
 

Roma Things To Do

Roma is famous for its cattle and with over 400 000 cows mooing along each year, it’s no surprise this is the southern hemisphere’s largest cattleyard. Take a visitor tour or if you are in town on a Tuesday or Thursday you can witness one of the auctions taking place at the Roma Salesyards.

Watch a big rig show that mixes trivia and a show where you’ll discover the history of gas and oil in Roma complete with props, projections, sound effects and lighting for only a $10 entry fee.

Enjoy a race day at the Roma Picnic Races with a five-race program to keep you entertained.

Wander down Hero’s Avenue framed by 140 bottle trees planted along the sidewalks in 1920 to pay tribute to the World War 1 heroes from the region.

On the cusp of Carnarvon Gorge National Park, you can enjoy a hike, partake in bird watching or take an eco-tour with BooBook  to discover history and formation stories behind the gorges, historical sites and Aboriginal art.
 

Miles Things To Do

One of Australia’s leading region museums, the Miles Historical Village Museum is an incredibly unique style of museum created as a place where history could be preserved and presented in a ‘streetscape’ style. See the cultural hub of Miles’s community at the award-winning Dogwood Crossing featuring an art gallery with facilities to host nationally touring exhibitions, library and IT centre.

Originally named Dogwood, Miles still holds remnants of its history within the town, one such place is the Dogwood Creek walking track lined with beautiful floral and fauna.

Jondaryan Things To Do

The Jondaryan Woolshed is Australia’s oldest and largest operating shearing shed in Australia. Get a taste of outback life with a day’s admission. You can also enjoy a bite to eat at the Woolshed Café and Damper Hut. There are also many family friendly activities on offer, particularly in school holidays.

Visit the Alex Campbell Park - Brymaroo War Memorial that features a mounted Canberra Bomber MK20 aircraft to commemorate Jondaryan’s contribution of the ‘Brisbane Line of Defence’ during World War 2.
